The death toll from the novel coronavirus in the US increased to over 40,000 on Sunday, the highest in the world, and almost twice the number of deaths in the next highest country Italy, revealed a Reuters tally.

The United States’ toll rose to 40,000 from 30,000 in four days after including untested but possible COVID-19 deaths reported by New York City. The United States has the world’s highest number of confirmed coronavirus cases so far, with more than 750,000 infections.
