On Tuesday, health minister Harsh Vardhan said that India will be self-sufficient in producing rapid antibody tests and RTPCR diagnostic kits by end of May. This would make possible for the country to achieve the target of one lakh tests per day by the end of next month.

Encouraging scientists to rapidly develop coronavirus solutions such as vaccines, drugs and medical equipment, he said that at least half a dozen of candidates supported vaccines and four are already in advanced stage. Regulatory platform has been constituted for immediate clearances.

Vardhan was addressing scientists of autonomous institutes and PSUs under the department of biotechnology before reviewing their work related to coronavirus solutions. Scientists said that at least 9 of these studies were in early stages and adjuvant system for enhancing immunogenicity of the candidate vaccine was in the advanced stage.
