India expected to produce 2 crore PPE by June-end for medical personnel to treat COVID-19

India’s manufacturing capacity for personal protective equipment (PPE) designed for medical personnel who are treating coronavirus patients has reached 3 lakh a day earlier in this week. It has been estimated that the estimated requirement of 2 crore body coveralls will be met by June-end. Up to now, around 50 lakh PPE has been manufactured and more 50 lakh are estimated to be ready by the end of this month.

According to information given by the textiles ministry, approximately one crore PPE are projected to be manufactured in June. The PPE kits are already been sent to the states by the health ministry for medical staffs.

According to information available with the ministry, 400 manufacturers are certified, out of which 100 manufacturers are supplying to HLL Lifecare Limited, which is the designated single-window procurement agency. The rest are set to take orders from states.
