90% of people in home isolation recovered: Govt

New Delhi: Four out of five Covid-positive people who were under home isolation have recovered from the infection, while the overall recovery rate is above 50%. This has prompted Delhi government to promote home isolation as an effective measure for those with mild symptoms of the novel coronavirus. Currently, over 4,000 people are under home isolation.“More than 80% of Covid-positive patients either have no symptoms or mild symptoms like mild fever or cough. They don’t need to be hospitalised. They can stay at home and look after themselves. Most people recover from the virus easily,” chief minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted on Friday urging people not to panic. ....read more

Don’t distract doctors with online promotion of brands amid Covid: Modi govt to pharma firms

New Delhi: The Narendra Modi government has reminded pharmaceutical companies to “maintain a high standard of ethical conduct”, after it received a complaint that doctors discharging duties during the Covid crisis are “unduly” distracted by field staff “forced by pharmaceutical companies for online promotion of their brands”, ThePrint has learnt.“You are requested to ensure that companies maintain a high standard of ethical conduct in the interactions with healthcare professionals, especially in the Covid-19 crisis,” according to the order issued on 26 May by the Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP), which functions under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. Recently, a heart-wrenching video from Jahanabad district of Bihar surfaced in which a mother was seen walking with the dead body of her three-year-old son and crying on her fate. The child, belonging to a village, died because there was no ambulance to take him to the hospital of Patna which was 48 km away. The whole world is waging a war against the coronavirus pandemic, but what about the areas that still struggle to find an ambulance to reach an affordable healthcare centre? COVID in rural India is a reality but what’s entirely missing are support systems to deal with it.
