In an effort to help the United Arab Emirates to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, a team of healthcare staffs, doctors and nurses from India had gone to the Middle Eastern country. The UAE government had urged the Indian government to send across few medical professionals and health workers to fight the coronavirus outbreak in their country.
After receiving the Centres approval, a team of 88 healthcare workers, out of which 38 staffs from Kerala, left for UAE on 9th May. The team also comprises of the healthcare experts employed in the UAE who had gone to their homes in Kerala for leave while the COVID-19 lockdown was imposed. The team also included of those who were employed by the Emirates to boost the efforts to fight against COVID-19.
19 staffs in the team are from Aster MedCity, Kochi, 14 staffs are from Kozhikodes Aster MIMS Hospital. Aster group had also sent 15 health workers from its hospitals in Bengaluru and 18 healthcare workers from Maharashtra. The health workers flew from Kochi, Bengaluru and Kolhapur airports on 9th May. This is for the first time a hospital group is sending their doctors and nurses from Kerala and other states to Gulf countries to provide medical assistance.
The hospitals group said that the staff nurses are critical care nurses, experienced in providing specialized care to patients in intensive care units. They are deployed in field hospitals and other private hospitals. UAE had recorded more than 18,198 COVID-19 cases with almost 4,804 recoveries and 198 deaths.
