Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) civic Law Committee has approved a resolution of giving permanency in service to 103 doctors. These doctors are working with the civic-run YCM Hospital, which is a dedicated COVID-19 hospital.

Ashwini Bobade, chairperson of the civic Law Committee, told The Indian Express that they have passed a resolution giving permanency in service to 103 COVID-19 warrior doctors. This was their last committee meeting and is delighted that they have done something good as they make their exit. The doctors are doing an exceptional service to the whole society and COVID-19 patients. Hence, it was their duty to make sure that they all get justice.

Bobade said that false accusations were levelled against the committee about their members of demanding money from doctors for regularising appointments. Those who made allegations have failed to provide any proof.

From last one month, 4 meetings of the committee were delayed without any decision on regularisation of the services for doctors, who were already selected in February. This had resulted to allegations from opposition NCP that the members of the committee are demanding Rs 20-30 lakh from each doctor. Few doctors had complained to the civic administration about the delay of regularisation of the services.

Bobade said the meetings of committee were postponed as the civic administration had repeatedly informed that meetings shouldn’t have more than 3 members due to lockdown regulations. YCMH dean Dr Rajendra Wable has finally approved the resolution.

Bobade said as the NCPs were making the allegations, their committee members were missing for the meeting. They also waited till 3.30 pm, but no NCP member came. When called they refused to come. BJP members backed the resolution in favour of the doctors. The Law Committee resolution will now go to the civic general body for approval.

PCMC commissioner Shravan Hardikar said that it is a huge relief for the administration as they were seeking to regularise the services for doctors. A section of the doctors working at YCM Hospital, said that even 103 doctors have been appointed, they have left seniors out.
