On Sunday, the Delhi government withdrew its decision to announce small and medium multi-speciality nursing homes as ‘COVID nursing homes’. This decision came when the Delhi Medical Association had written to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal stating that this decision will harm the healthcare necessities of non-COVID patients. The decision to declare nursing homes as COVID facilities is now withdrawn with immediate effect, as per the new order issued by the Delhi government.

Small and medium multi-speciality nursing homes in the capital have 10 to 49 beds and were declared as “COVID nursing homes” on Saturday by the Delhi government. Only separate exclusive eye centres, dialysis centres, ENT centres, maternity homes and IVF centres were excused, as per the order on Saturday.

Kejriwal had tweeted earlier in the day in Hindi that with the Delhi governments decision, more than 5,000 beds will be available for COVID-19 patients. In the coming few days, their officials will talk to owners of each nursing home regarding the solution of their problems.

There are 9,856 beds available for COVID-19 patients, with almost 5,455 beds occupied at 10.35 pm on Sunday, as shown in the Delhi Corona app.
