Only 4.16 percent of patients required ventilator support out of India's total COVID-19 cases, says government official

A government official said that almost 7,423 COVID-19 patients (4.16 per cent) required ventilator support across the country till Tuesday evening, out of the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases that are reported in India till now.

Although 27,317 COVID-19 patients (15.34 per cent) require an ICU setting, only 28,301 patients (15.89 per cent) were kept oxygen support so far.

As per the Union Health Ministry, on Wednesday the total number of COVID-19 cases reached to 4, 56,183 and the death count rose to 14,476. The country had reported 465 mortalities and a record single-day spike of 15,968 fresh cases in the last 24 hours.

The official said that the total active cases as on 23rd June were 2.57 per cent in ICU as against 2.53 per cent as on 22nd June. 0.54 per cent were on ventilators and 2.99 per cent on oxygen as against with 2.82 per cent as on 22nd June.

According to the Union Health Ministry, the number of COVID-19 patients recovering each day is increasing too. In the last 24 hours, a total of 10,495 COVID-19 patients have been recovered. Till date, a total of 2, 58,684 patients have been recovered. The recovery rate is 56.71 per cent.

The Health Ministry stated that India has one of the lowest deaths per lakh population in the entire world. The World Health Organization (WHO) situation report 154 on 22nd June had noted that India had one of the lowest deaths per lakh population. Indias cases of death per lakh population are 1.00 whereas the global average is more six times at 6.04.

According to the ICMR, rigorous testing, tracking and treatment is the only approach to prevent the spread of infection and save many lives. The ICMR has instructed all the concerned state governments, public and private organizations to take the necessary steps to scale-up testing for coronavirus disease.
