A video has gone viral of a couple from Kannauj district hospital as they were seen weeping with grief at the death of their one-year-child and clinging to his body. The incident happened on Sunday evening.

The man was identified as Prem Chand had alleged the hospital of not giving treatment to his son for 40 minutes, and claimed that due to the delay, his son died. Prem Chand is a farmer and he stated that the treatment was started only when a group of journalists present at the hospital spoke to the hospital administration. The doctors examined his son for about 30 minutes and then declared him dead. If he had received the treatment earlier, his life could have been saved.

The hospital authorities and district administration refuted the allegation and claimed that the infant’s treatment was started immediately as he was brought to the emergency ward.

The hospital’s Chief Medical Superintendent Dr UC Chaturvedi said that they tried their best to save the child. He was alive for 30 minutes and a paediatrician was also called to inspect the boy.

Prem Chand, lives in Mishripur village in the district with his wife Janki Dulari and five children. Two days back, they took their one-year-old son, who was the youngest of their five children, to a private clinic as he was suffering from fever and respiratory problems. The doctor prescribed some medicines but the child’s condition worsened on Sunday afternoon and he became unconscious. So, the couple rushed him to the district medical facility.

On reaching the emergency ward, doctors first refused to admit his son stating that there are no vacant beds. After several requests also, no doctor paid any attention. 40 minutes later, a group of journalists came and seeing them weeping spoke to the hospital administration. After that, they were allowed to enter the emergency ward. A doctor declared his son dead after examining him for some time.

Dr Chaturvedi said a swelling was seen around the child’s neck and the doctors suspect it could be a case of viral encephalitis. As they found the child’s condition was deteriorating, they advised the family to take him to Kanpur for treatment but they refused.

District Magistrate Rakesh Kumar Mishra said that he had collected a report on this incident from the hospital. He further said that the child was brought to the hospital in a serious condition and the doctors tried their best to save him.
