 U.S. FDA allows emergency use of Danahers COVID-19 antibody test

Medical device maker Danaher Corp said on Monday its COVID-19 blood test for detecting if a person had ever been infected with the new coronavirus received emergency use clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.The companys unit Beckman Coulter said it had shipped the antibody tests to nearly 400 U.S. hospitals and laboratories, and has ramped up production to deliver more than 30 million tests a month.Antibody tests, which can indicate a certain degree of immunity in those who have had the virus, are seen crucial in safely reopening economies after weeks of lockdowns.High demand for the test has led to the entry of several fraudulent kits, prompting the FDA to tighten its rules over the tests. ....read more

Two dead, four hospitalised after gas leak in India pharma plant

At least two workers have been killed and four others sickened by gas that leaked from a pharmaceutical plant in an Indian industrial city where another fatal gas leak occurred last month."The fire brigade immediately reached the scene and plugged the leak," police commissioner Rajeev Kumar Meena said of the incident that occurred at approximately 2am on Tuesday (20:30 GMT on Monday) at the Sainor Life Sciences pharmaceutical plant in Visakhapatnam in Indias Andhra Pradesh state.The injured workers were hospitalised and in stable condition, authorities said.
