Two women doctors from Nellore and Visakhapatnam have complained of harassment by bike borne troublemakers. The doctor from Vizag complained that she was sexually harassed and the Nellore doctor told TNIE that she was frequently stalked by a group of men on two bikes till Narayana Hospital. Initially, she ignored them, but was scared when the men came inside the hospital. She told one of her friends and a constable was deployed near the hospital when they came to know about the incident. When the constable reprimanded the men, they immediately apologized and left.

Yet, she was stalked by the same group again on Thursday. They stopped her and her friend and asked him to step out of the car. They even slapped and verbally abused him and warned of filling an crime case against them if they approached the police.

She lodged a complaint about the incident at the nearby police station, and the police also registered a case against the men on Friday evening. Sub-inspector Nagarjuna Reddy told TNIE that they have sent notices to the accused namely Teja, Manikanta, Prasada alias David and Sheikh Nasar. The doctor wanted that the accused should be booked under the Disha Act.

In the meantime, the doctor from Visakhapatnam, wrote a letter to the Women’s Commission, stating that she was inappropriately touched by men on bikes on Thursday night while she was returning home from the hospital. She could not see their faces as it was very dark and they were wearing helmets.

Disha Police Station ACP Priyanka said that the doctor has to file a complaint but she has asked to make sure that the area is properly well-lit as she and her colleagues use that stretch frequently. They have started patrolling the area and arrangements are made to install street lights. They have also launched a covert operation.

Women’s Commission chairperson Vasireddy Padma said that even after the Centre had passed an ordinance and amendments are been made to the Epidemic Act, it is very unfortunate that such incidents are occurring. They are trying hard to ensure justice to these two doctors and safeguard that such incidents shouldn’t happen again.
