On Wednesday, India had registered its highest ever single-day recoveries from coronavirus. Almost 28,472 people had recovered from the COVID-19 infection in a single day, even though 37,724 new cases were added in the last 24 hours taking the total count to nearly 12 lakh confirmed cases.

As per the health ministry, out of the total 11, 92,915 cases, 4, 11,133 were active cases, and the total number of patients recovered so far from the coronavirus disease is 7, 53,049. The recovery rate in COVID-19 patients is now at 63.13%.

The death count due to the COVID-19 disease also rose to 28,732 with 648 fatalities recorded in one single day. Though the national recovery rate has improved, 19 states and UTs have reported a recovery rate greater than the national average recovery rate.

Delhi is in the top list with 84.83% recovery and other northern states include Ladakh 84.31%, which has the second-best recovery rate in India; Haryana has 76.29% recovery rate; Chandigarh has 68.97% recovery rate, Punjab has 67.86% recovery rate and Himachal Pradesh has 64.72% recovery rate.

The health ministry said that the increasing number of cured patients and rising difference between the active and recovered patients are a witness that the strategies that are adopted by the Centre and are being implemented by the states and UTs are giving desired outcomes.

The prime focus is on early detection through house-to-house surveys, surveillance, contact tracing, proper and effective containment plans, screening of the susceptible population and wide-spread testing.
