On Tuesday, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) said that a total number of 5, 28,000 samples were tested for COVID-19 throughout the country on 27th July. According to the MoHFW, this is an effect of the coordinated efforts of the Union and several State and Union Territory governments push to upsurge the testing for the coronavirus in the country. On 26th July, 5, 15,000 samples were tested for COVID-19 in the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said that efforts are being made to upgrade the testing capacity in the country to perform up to 10 lakh COVID-19 tests each day.

In the meantime, the case fatality rate (CFR) for coronavirus is constantly falling in India and at present is at 2.28 per cent, whereas the total recovered cases has crossed 9 lakhs in the country.

The MoHFW said that with an effective containment approach, aggressive testing, and standardized clinical management protocols which are based on the holistic Standard of Care, the CFR has significantly dropped. India has the lowest fatality rates in the world.

The streak of above 30,000 recoveries per day for the fourth successive day is still continuing and almost 31,991 patients were discharged in the past 24 hours. The total recoveries has crossed beyond nine lakhs and the number stands at 9, 17,567. The recovery rate of India is 64 per cent.
