Home Minister Amit Shah hospitalized after testing positive for COVID-19

Home Minister Amit Shah is admitted to hospital after catching the coronavirus infection on Sunday. He has become the most senior politician in the country to test positive for the COVID-19.

Shah, who is a close supporter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, heads a ministry which is at the forefront in the management of the current epidemic.

India is the third worst affected country in the world after the United States and Brazil, with approximately 1.7 million confirmed COVID-19 cases and 36,500 deaths, as per a Reuters tally.

Shah said in a tweet requesting all who came in contact with him in the last few days to isolate themselves and get tested.

Shah, aged 55 years said he got himself tested after showing initial symptoms of coronavirus. His health is fine but is hospitalized on the advice of his doctors.

An internal ministry spokesman said that he was not able to comment immediately on when Amit Shah met last with Modi.
