Not a Covid shield, but flu shot can help: Docs

NEW DELHI: Amid the pandemic, doctors and experts are advising people of all ages to take a flu shot as a primary protection against other respiratory viral illnesses like common seasonal flu and H1N1 — some of which can cause pneumonia and make people vulnerable to coronavirus. Influenza or flu is a viral disease caused by influenza viruses. It affects the respiratory system and causes symptoms like cough, fever, sore throat, tiredness, muscle pain and runny nose. Pneumonia is one of the complications of the flu, along with sinus and ear infections which are common among infants and elderly. A flu shot, emphasise experts, is no protection against Covid-19 but will work to reduce illnesses that often have similar symptoms. more

Spiritual Prescription: Yoga - The Greatest Healer

The Sanskrit word for ‘healthy’ is ‘Svastha’ - Sav-Stha means being established in one’s own true self. This is only possible when the body is in union with the mind and the consciousness. The Bhagavad Gita (Ch. IV shloka 36), says “Api chedasi papebhya sarvebhya pap kritama” or in other words, “even if thou are the sinner of all sinners, you shall cross over all sin by the raft of knowledge”. Here sin can be equated with physical or mental sickness.Again, in shloka 37, Krishna says “Gyanagni sarva karmani bhasmasat kurute tatha”. In other words, “as fire reduces fuel to ashes, the fire of knowledge reduces all karma to ashes”.In shloka 38, Krishna said “Na hi gyanena sa drisham pavitram ih vidyate” more

Covid stress leads to spike in suicide cases

The Tribune

With the rising number of suicide cases being reported in the state amid the Covid pandemic, psychologists have cited consumerism, cut-throat competition, shallow human relations, negative impact of the social media and inability to cope with the unpleasant life events as the reasons behind the surge. Human development is not all about getting scholastic degrees, getting high salary packages and acquiring wealth and property. People, who get into the mad rush of multiplying their wealth, often end up feeling disappointed, said a Medical Superintendent at a mental health and rehabilitation hospital, Boileauganj, Dr Sanjay Pathak.
