Woman in Tripura lodges police complaint against doctors after the death of her newborn

On Friday, a woman lodged a police complaint and accused doctors of negligence two weeks after her new-born died at Tripura’s Gobinda Ballabh Panth (GBP) Hospital.

The officer in-charge of New Capital Complex police station, while speaking to indianexpress.com, said that a complaint has been lodged by Papia Paul Saha against doctors who were on duty at the hospital on 12th August. She complained that her new-born boy of 3 days died shortly after the doctors and nurses had collected a swab sample for COVID-19.

The official said that the complainant has accused that her baby was fine and healthy till a COVID-19 swab sample was collected by doctors and nurses present on duty. She has alleged them of negligence resulting in his death. The police have also registered a complaint under Section 137 of the CrPC and have started investigation in this case.

The complainant was tested positive for coronavirus and was undergoing treatment at the GBP Hospital’s COVID ward. She filed the complaint as soon as she was discharged. As per the reports, the child was born to the COVID positive mother on 10th August. The state government had ordered a departmental inquiry regarding the death of an infant. Till now, 9927 people have tested COVID-19 positive and 89 died from the coronavirus pandemic in Tripura.
