JIPMER resident doctor's stage protest after colleague was assaulted

On Wednesday, resident doctors of JIPMER in Puducherry had protested in front of the administrative building, which is the office of the institutes director over the apparent assault of a doctor by a male nurse in COVID ward.

On Tuesday, the postgraduate student, also a junior resident, was on duty in the ICU of the COVID ward reportedly called a male nurse and gave him certain instructions. But as per sources, there was some argument, following the resident doctor was manhandled by the male nurse. Although the nurse was taken away from the ward, it led to a protest in the resident doctors. Never the less, there was no official response regarding the issue. Doctors and nurses of JIPMER are insevere stress due to the upsurge in COVID-19 cases.

After the nursing office-in-charge, Shanthi Tamilmani informed the proposal of change in duty hours on 28th August due to the increasing number of cases, the nurses in COVID ward protested on Tuesday by staging a dharna to get the attention of the administration towards the decrease of duty shifts from four to three without appropriate planning.
