The Indian Medical Association has written a mocking letter to the government, responding sharply to MoS Health Ashwini Kumar Choubeys statement regarding the Centre does not have any data about the healthcare workers who had died due to COVID-19.

The IMA has accused the government of being so apathetic towards the sacrifice of doctors and healthcare workers in this coronavirus pandemic. The IMA said in the letter that no other nation has lost so many doctors and healthcare staffas India. To pretend that this information does notvalueto get the attention of the country is detestable. If the government does notkeep the statistics of the total number of doctors and healthcare staffs who are infected by COVID-19 and the statistics of total number of them who have sacrificed their life in this pandemic to serve the nation, loses the moral authority to order the Epidemic Act 1897 and the Disaster Management Act.

The IMA letter, calling the government hypocrite, alleged that on one hand, the government calls healthcare workers corona warriors and on the other hand, it has left their families to stand for themselves. The association has also published a list of the doctors who had succumbed to the COVID-19 pandemic and has requested the government to provide support to their families. The IMA has recommended the government to seek similar information from the representatives of nurses and other healthcare employees.
