Delhi records 4,432 fresh COVID-19 cases, positivity rate stood at 7.4%

The daily count of COVID-19 in Delhi continues to be more than 4,000 for the 10th consecutive day, as reported on Thursday except on Monday when 3,229 cases were reported. Almost 4,432 people were tested positive in the past 24 hours, taking the state’s total count to over 2.34 lakh.

The death count has reached 4,877 with 38 new fatalities that were confirmed in the past 24 hours. It is the highest single-day count recorded in the last two months, said an official. In the last 17 days, Delhi has reported 427 deaths due to the coronavirus.

In terms of COVID fatalities, Delhi ranks 5th among the states, however its population is less than Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, where more than 5,000 people have died due to the coronavirus infection. The data shared by the state revealed that Maharashtra has recorded a maximum of 30,883 deaths.

On Wednesday, as per the Delhi government, 60,014 tests were conducted and the positivity rate was at 7.4%. The total number of COVID-19 cases has reached 2,34,701, out of them 1,98,103 had recovered, migrated or discharged. The total number of active cases is at 31,721, whereas the number of containment zones is 1,670.

The ICU beds occupancy with and without ventilator support, in public and private hospitals designated for COVID-19 continues to rise. On Thursday, almost 6,974 beds of the 14,863 COVID beds were occupied. The ICU beds occupancy with and without ventilator support is at 62% and 69%, respectively. Lady Hardinge Medical College, Apollo, Aakash Healthcare, Sri Balaji Action, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute BLK, Holy Family and several other private hospitals don’t have a single bed vacant for COVID patients who require ICU support.

In the meantime, the health experts urged on the necessity to follow social distancing measures and wear masks in public places to avoid any further crisis. The doctors said that the cases of common flu, dengue and typhoid are also increasing.
