The relatives of a patient who died due to COVID-19 damaged the hospital property and assaulted the medical staff at Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS).

The relatives of the deceased woman alleged that due to negligence by the hospital staff resulted in her death. But the doctors refused the allegation and clarified that the patient was already in critical condition and during treatment succumbed to the disease.

A group of the deceased patient’s relatives rushed into the hospital at midnight on Monday after they came to know about her death. They damaged the hospital premises and then allegedly assaulted the medical staff.

An elderly security staff member at the hospital tried to stop the angry mob but was also exposed to their wrath. Police arrived and got the situation under control as things got out of hand. After the mob left, the doctors then staged a flash protest and refused to return to work till adequate security was provided.
