The government doctors and junior doctors’ associations in Telangana are at loggerheads regarding the implementation of in-service quota in Post Graduate medical education for government doctors, who have provided their services in rural or tribal areas for 5 years.

Are presentation was submitted by the Telangana Government Doctors Association (TGDA) to the Director of Medical Education Dr K Ramesh Reddy almost a week ago. They had asked for implementation of in-service quota in PG courses that are offered by medical colleges in the State. They also demanded that the in-service quota should be applicable for at least 50 per cent of the seats.

On Thursday, in opposition to the TGDA appeal, the Telangana Junior Doctors Association also submitted a representation to the DME directing that the PG medical seats are already limited in the State and 50 percent of them were under the national pool. They further said that only 50 percent of the seats remain accessible for applicants from TS and from that if 50 percent is given to the government doctors, then only a handful would be left. They requested that the State should either continue with giving extra points to government doctors who are applying for PG or allot “limited percentage” of the remaining seats meant for in-service quota.
