New Delhi: Nearly 7.1% of Indias adults (aged 18 and above) were exposed to the coronavirus by the end of August, suggest the results of the second national sero-survey, conducted by ICMR from August 17 through September 22.

This represents an enormousrise from the 0.73% logged in the first survey, conducted across the same 700 villages and urban wards as the second, from May 11 through June 4. However, the findings of the second sero-survey indicate that a considerable section of the population has still not been exposed to the virus and continues to be at risk of infection. The sero-survey revealed that only 1 in 15 people (aged 10 and above) had likely been exposed to the virus by the end of August. The risk of infection was two-fold in slums in comparison with non-slum areas of urban centres, and four times higher than rural areas… (NDTV, September 29, 2020)
