A new study published in the International Wound Journal assessed the efficacy of topical silicone gel in the management of scars.

This was a systemic review and meta-analysis from PubMed, Web of Science and Embase that included six randomized controlled trials with a total of 375 patients.

The results showed that topical silicone gel significantly reduced pigmentation, height and pliability scores postoperatively compared with placebos or no treatment. Hence, it was concluded that topical silicone gel is an effective modality in post-operative scar prevention.
