An employee of Udala Sub Divisional Hospital (SDH) in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha was caught on tape while taking a bribe from a patient’s relative for arranging a unit of blood. The video displays the blood bank worker Pradip Behera as he accepts Rs 1,500 from one Rajkishore Murmu of Angarpoda village. The video has gone viral on social media platforms.

According to the sources, on Sunday an elderly woman Salgifrom Marandi village was admitted to the SDH. Following a medical examination, doctors said she would require at least three units of blood as her haemoglobin level was very low. On doctor’s advice, Salgi’s grandson Rajkishore Murmu was trying to arrange for blood but was not able to find a donor with A+ blood group.

Later, he sought help from Pradip and the latter said that he can arrange for a suitable donor but asked Rajkishore to pay Rs.1,500 for each unit of blood. Rajkishore paid him Rs 1,500 cash to Pradip. But the video was captured secretly by someone and also made it viral on social media after a day.

The accused confessed to taking the bribe and handed over the cash to a relative who had provided a unit of blood for money. In the meantime, doctor in-charge Laxmikanta Pati said that the department will conduct an investigation regarding this matter.
