Senior officials with the World Health Organization (WHO) have stated that according to estimates, 10% of the global population may have been infected with COVID-19.

WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus mentioned that 10 countries account for 70% of the reported COVID-19 cases and deaths, and merely three countries account for half of the burden. As on Monday, there were over 35 million COVID-19 cases and over one million deaths worldwide. WHO Emergencies Director, Dr. Michael Ryan, stated that the pandemic continues to evolve, with a growth in Southeast Asia, a rise in the northern hemisphere, and an increase in cases and deaths in Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean.
