The COVID-19 pandemic has caused disruption in critical mental health services in 93% of countries across the world while the demand for mental health is increasing, reports a new WHO survey.

The survey includes 130 countries and provides the first global data that highlights the disastrous impact COVID-19 has had on access to mental health services.The survey findings also emphasize on the urgent need for increased funding.

The survey was conducted between June and August 2020 among 130 countries across WHO’s six regions and the countries reported extensive disturbances in several critical mental health services. More than 60% reported disruptions to mental health services for the susceptible individuals, including children and adolescents, older adults, as well as women who needantenatal or postnatal services… (WHO, October 5, 2020)
