On Wednesday, in a strong message, the Madras high court argued the admission of 65 postgraduate medical students. These students have completed their courses in six Puducherry-based institutions. In 2017-18, admission to PG medical courses in Puducherry were directed through CENTAC (centralised admission committee) and was based on PG-NEET marks, however these institutions admitted almost 65 students on their own.

Justice N Anand Venkatesh, said that mediocrity should not be encouraged, at least in medical education. He further said that it would be better even if few seats are vacant and wasted rather than filling these seats with unmeritorious candidates. This can lead to compromising the precious lives of the people of this country.

Justice Anand Venkatesh has imposed 5 lakh each as cost on six medical colleges/universities who had illegally admitted the students in the academic year 2017-18. The judge has not spared the high court also and said that this court should take the responsibility for taking a long time to hear these cases and render judgment.
