A 75-year-old vegetarian male was diagnosed with Sjogrens syndrome.

His findings included – elevatedserum antinuclear antibodies (ANA) and a confirmatory salivary gland biopsy.

The patient was prescribed vitamin B12 and iron oral supplements, which improved the low serum vitamin B12 and iron levels after 20 days. Xerostomia, glossitis and glossodyniapersisted even after 12 months despite symptomatic treatment, when the ANA titer was unchanged.

The patient was given an anti-inflammatory polyvalent immunoglobulin formulation – an oral bovine colostrum concentrate, in combination with oral vitamin D3 (2,000 IU daily). This modality successfully ameliorated sicca symptoms and xerostomia in this patient.
