One day a man got into a taxi to go to the airport. They were in the right lane when a car jumped out of a parking space right in front of their taxi. The driver slammed on his brakes and missed the other car merely by inches! The driver of the other car started yelling at the taxi driver.
The driver just smiled and waved at the guy. The man in the back seat of the taxi was surprised at the driver and asked him why did he do that? The other person almost ruined his taxi and would have sent them to the hospital had there been a collision.
That’s when the taxi driver taught him The Law of the Garbage Truck.
He explained that many people we meet every day are like garbage trucks. They move around full of frustration, anger, and disappointment – the garbage. As this garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it. Sometimes they’ll dump it on you. There is no need to take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. There’s no pint taking their garbage and spreading it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.
People who are successful do not let the garbage trucks take over their day. It is important to love the people who treat us right and forgive the ones who don’t.
Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it.
