A recent study published in the Annals of Otology, Rhinology and Laryngology emphasized the importance of saline as one of the options for relieving symptoms of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS).

Data from 42 patients with CRS was available from a study conducted in the past. Of these 40 patients were included and asked to complete a questionnaire about disease and symptoms. The study participants also underwent a clinical examination. A total of 34 patients (85%) responded and could be included and assessed. The study median length of time between initial inclusion and follow-up was 11 years (range: 8-15 years). Long-term follow-up of these patients showed statistically significant reduction in median total visual analogue score for combined sinonasal symptoms. In addition, patients reported statistically significant improvement in the general quality of life.
