Acne is one of the most common skin diseases seen especially among teenagers. Modern treatments for acne are based on the usage of cleansers, moisturizers and sunscreens. It is very important to understand certain aspects while choosing the right cleanser: the interaction in between the skin type and cleanser, the ideal time and method of cleaning along with the cosmetic insight of the patient.

The main objective of this review is to highlight the importance of selecting the right and most suitable topical dermocosmetics for the different skin types. The review will also highlight the most effective timing and technique to combine dermocosmetics along with the standard acne treatment. Aliterature search for selected keywords was done using PubMed and additional studies were identified based on expertise of the author.

The results of the review suggested that treatment of acne patients must include proper education regarding proper daily skin hygiene and protection from environmental damage. It is difficult to give reliable recommendations due to the lower number of clinical studies on cleansers.

Thus, the review study concluded that the rights election and use of topical dermocosmetics are important in the management of acne patients. Daily use of cleansers, moisturizers and sunscreens can decrease both inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne lesions and can be supportive for acne treatment when combined with specific drugs.
