The Indian Army doctors have achieved a new achievement as they had successfully removed a soldiers appendix in a dug-in at a forward surgical centre, which is situated in Eastern Ladakh at 16,000 feet.

A team of three doctors had performed the surgery on a soldier who couldn’t be evacuated from Eastern Ladakh to Lehowing to the weather conditions.

Army sources said that the surgical team from the field hospital had performed an emergency surgery of appendix removal in freezing temperatures at a height of around 16000 feet in a dug-in at a Forward Surgical Centre in extreme conditions. The sources also informed that despite the difficulties faced by the doctors while performing the surgery, it was successful and the patient is now stable.

Sources further stated that this is one of the very few successful surgeries that were conducted by the Army doctors in forward areas. The Indian Armys field hospitals are fully functional and are also carrying out specialized treatment for extreme winter-related problems faced by troops who are deployed in the freezing conditions at the LAC.

Manoj Mukund Naravane, Army Chief General had made numerous trips to the forward locations to safeguard that the troops were being provided with proper clothing and inhabitation.
