All medicine practices, including dermatology, have adapted to teledermatology.in during the COVID 19 pandemic. Pandemic-related restrictions acted as a catalyst in the general adoption of telemedicine among physicians and patients. In a survey conducted among the clinical faculty in the department of dermatology at Yale school of medicine and patients, the results showed that the faculty were comfortable with consulting patients and treating many skin conditions only by telemedicine or by telemedicine along with in-person visits to the clinic. However, the majority of the clinicians were of the view that the total body skin assessment should only be managed through in-person visits.

All the physician participants opined that teledermatology enabled them to reduce the number of in-person visits, yet several (96%) were of the view that many cases of skin cancer or skin diseases advanced due to COVID-related restrictions of interactions with in-office medical care.

All the patients agreed that teledermatology saved their time, including travel time, wait-time, and time off from work. A considerable 65% of the patient participants agreed that that telemedicine saved at least 1 hour of their time. They also agreed that the quality of care during telemedicine was equivalent to the in-office visits. This study gives rise to an immense opportunity for making technological innovation an essential part of routine health care; however, caution is advised while teleconsulting patients.
