Senior epidemiologists from the Indian Council of Medical Research caution that states should not ignore the threat from a possible COVID-19 second wave and must focus on building up individual protection.

As several regions unlock and inter-state movement increases, the odds of spikes are high if precautions are ignored. Chief scientist and senior epidemiologist Dr Samiran Panda said that states must not take it easy. He added that Delhi is seeing its third wave, and states like Maharashtra should be on alert. According to Dr Panda, regions that may have eased restrictions without ensuring individual protection would record a surge in cases. He further stated that COVID-19 waves can be state-specific, depending on the precautionary measures in place to check the rise in cases… (ET Healthworld – TNN, November 7, 2020)
