Millions of children across the globe face an increased risk of polio and measles amid disruptions to vital immunization programs due to the COVID-19 pandemic, stated UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and World Health Organization (WHO).

The two agencies have stated that the immunization rates in some countries have declined by nearly 50%, with people not being able to access health services due to lockdown and transport disruptions, or on account of unwillingness because of fear of COVID-19. Polio and measles vaccination campaigns also had to be halted in order to prevent possible infection of health workers and communities.
