On Monday, Delhi’s chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal gave orders to 4th and 5th year MBBS students and dentists for permitting their assistance in the hospitals and COVID-19 Intensive Care Units (ICU) to manage the manpower shortage. This order was given after a spike in the coronavirus cases in the national capital.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfares update, the Union Territory has documented 40,212 active cases along with 4,81,260 recoveries and 8,391 deaths on Monday.

Earlier due to increasing number of COVID-19 cases, the Delhi government has allowed COVID-19 designated hospitals to involve fourth and fifth-year MBBS students along with interns, and BDS doctors to assist the doctors who are performing COVID-19 duties in managing the ongoing pandemic.

As per an official order, the fourth-year and fifth-year MBBS students and dentists will support duty doctors at the stipend of Rs 1,000 for an 8-hour shift and Rs 2,000 for a 12-hour shift per day.

The Delhi government had also mentioned in its order that for the interns, the allowance would be more than their stipend.
