Strike called on 11th Dec by IMA over Ayurveda surgery order

Agencies    02 December 2020

On Tuesday, the IMA gave a call to all their doctors who are practicing modern medicine to withdraw all their non-essential and non-COVID services on 11th December. This is in protest against a Central Council of Indian Medicine notice, in which they have given authorization for post-graduate practitioners in specified streams of Ayurveda to get trained for performing general surgical procedures.

The doctors’ body said that emergency services will function with ICUs and CCUs, however there will be no elective surgical case posted. The IMA has demanded an immediate withdrawal of both, stating that the notification given by the Central Council of Indian Medicine to permit the legal practice of surgeries by Ayurveda practitioners along with the formation of four committees by Niti Aayog for the amalgamation of all systems of medicine will lead to “mixopathy” only.
