The chief of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, expressed concern over the growing perception that the COVID-19 pandemic is over, despite the fact that the infection rates are soaring in some countries.
WHO Director-General stated that the progress on vaccines in recent days “gives us all a lift, and we can now start to see the light at the end of the tunnel.” He added that the WHO was concerned at the growing perception of the pandemic being over. Citing the European experience of successful lockdowns followed by relaxation, he added that as these measures are lifted, people must continue to follow national and local measures to ensure that there is no rebound of cases. “Even as vaccines are rolled out, people will need to keep adhering to public health measures so that everyone is protected”, he said… (UN, December 4, 2020)
