Above 200 people hospitalised in Eluru for a mystery disease

In West Godavari district, healthcare and medical experts were anxious as a group of people from various parts of Eluru town were hospitalised with symptoms similar to epilepsy. More than 200 people are hospitalised. The doctors are puzzled that the patients are not related to each other and belong to different areas of Eluru town. These people did not even attend or participate in any common event or function also.A medical expert team has visited Eluru and also inspected the cases to diagnose the exact problem. The officials do not rule out any mysterious disease. Blood samples are collected for investigation to identify the cause of seizures that accompanied frothing and temporary loss of consciousness. The hospitalized patients are of different age groups. A 6-year-old girl was shifted to Vijayawada as her condition got worse. An emergency Medicare centre is set up in Vijayawada as a preventive measure.All the patients were admitted in the government hospital of Eluru. All of them belong to Kothapeta, Vangaya Gudem and Padamara Veedhi areas of the Eluru town. Health minister, Alla Nani visited the hospital and also interacted with the patients. He instructed the district medical and healthcare officer to conduct a door-to-door survey of the affected areas and also keep emergency medicines available. Special medical camps were also going to be set up. The health teams will inspect the area to identify whether the food or water consumed by the affected people was contaminated.K Sunanda, who is the district medical and health officer, said that all patients were presenting themselves with symptoms such as falling down suddenly with frothing and shivering. She also stated that the affected people had recovered suddenly and again presented themselves with the same symptoms, however there is no threat to any of the patients.
