Positivity rate of COVID-19 cases lowest in 6 months in Delhi

On Monday, the positivity rate of COVID-19 touched 3.15%, which is the lowest in almost six months. It was also the 7th day when the positivity rate of the coronavirus cases tested remained below 5%. The positivity rate on Thursday was 4.96%, Friday was 4.78%, Saturday was 4.2% and Sunday was 3.68%.

Delhi’s health minister, Satyendar Jain had written on twitter that in a month the positivity rate had declined to 3.15% from 15.26% since 7th November. In the same period, RTPCR positivity rate reduced to 6.68% from 30.20%. It is the lowest positivity rate in the past 6 months. Corona cases and positivity rate is coming down Steadily. Hopefully this will continue and please observe all precautions.

Public health specialists stated that declining positivity rate indicates subsiding of the third wave of the coronavirus infection in the capital city.

On Monday, Delhi reported 1,674 fresh cases of coronavirus, taking the total count in the state to more than 5.93 lakh. 53,207 tests were conducted including 21,362 RTPCR and 31,845 rapid antigen tests in the last 24 hours.

63 fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the death count to 9,706 in Delhi. The count of active cases on Monday reduced to 22,486 from 24,693 the prior day.

The total number of active cases has been dropping continuously as the number of patients recovering are more than new cases since a fortnight. On Monday the new cases were 1,674 and recovered cases were 3,818.

The medical director of Lok Nayak Hospital, Dr Suresh Kumar, said that strict implementation of rules to wear masks in public places was the key action that has helped in controlling the outbreak. Aggressive testing along with treatment also played an important role. He further said that the dip in cases has helped to reduce the rush in the hospitals. Lok Nayak Hospital has 2,000 reserved beds for COVID-19 patients and had 1,645 vacant beds on Monday. There were 77, 264, 1256 and 123 vacant beds at AIIMS Trauma Centre, Safdarjung, GTB and Apollo hospitals for COVID-19 patients, respectively.
