Once there was a little boy with a bad temper. In order to teach him how to control his temper, his father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the fence.

The first day the boy drove 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, he gradually learned to control his anger, and the number of nails hammered daily started coming down. The boy found out that it was easier to hold his temper than to drive the nails into the fence. The day finally came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father now suggested that the boy must now pull out one nail for each day that he is able to hold his temper.

As the days passed, the boy finally told his father that all the nails were out. The father then took him to the fence. He told him that he had done well but there were holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. He further said that when we say things in anger, they leave a scar just like these holes.

You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won’t matter how many times you say sorry after that; the wound will still be there. Make sure that you control your temper the next time you feel like saying something that you might regret later.
