The Uttar Pradesh government has made it compulsory for government doctors who are seeking the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for pursuing post-graduate courses to serve in the cadre for a minimum of 10 years. The decision is taken in a bid to check the reducing number of specialists in the Provincial Medical and Health Services. Any doctor who doesn’t want to do so will have to pay Rs 1 crore as a penalty to the government.

Additional chief secretary, Amit Mohan Prasad said that the in-service doctors undertaking PG courses are supposed to give in writing that they would return back to the primary cadre on completion of their programme and serve for at least 10 years. If they fail to do so, they will be charged a fine of Rs 1 crore to the state exchequer. This rule had been framed by an order issued by the Yogi Adityanath government in April 2017.

On Thursday, Prasad issued a fresh order to implement this order strictly. The order also stated that in-service doctors who leave their PG course mid-way will be disqualified from taking PG examination for three years.
