World Health Organization (WHO) Health Emergencies Programme Executive Director Mike Ryan has stated that the WHO is aware of reports of a new variant of COVID-19 identified in the United Kingdom, and that there is no evidence to suggest that the mutation will influence the effectiveness of vaccines against the viral disease.

UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock had earlier announced that a new variant of COVID-19 had been identified in the south of England, which was accountable for around 1,000 cases. The WHO official mentioned that there was no evidence that the new variant would transmit more easily or weaken the vaccines against COVID-19 that are currently being rolled out… (NDTV – ANI, December 15, 2020)
