It has been recently noted that there are associations between rosacea and many inflammatory gastrointestinal disorders. It was shown that therapies focusing on inflammatory gastrointestinal disorders might play a considerable role in resolving the immune system dysregulation and the rosacea symptoms resulting from it. Current theories emphasize the part played by the cutaneous microbiome, specifically D. folliculorum and some commensal bacteria, in the propagation of an inflammatory response and its related inflammatory effects in rosacea’s pathogenesis. It was also suggested that the generation of reactive oxygen species due to a change in innate immune response could be due to a component of rosacea’s disease mechanism.
