Dr Ravi Wankhedkar will be the National President IMA 2017-18.

Ravi is a Consulting Surgeon and Coloproctologist. He completed his schooling from Canossa Convent, Dhule and MBBS and MS (General Surgery) from the renowned BJ Medical College, Pune.

Ravi was sure of the district of Dhule as his area of work even before starting college, having witnessed poverty and other related health problems in the district. Upon becoming a General Surgeon, he joined Shri Bhausaheb Hire Government Medical College. As a lecturer in surgery at the college, he was bestowed with the Teacher of the Decade Award in 1999.

He continues to pursue his passion for teaching as Hon. Professor in Surgery at the college. Ravi is an exemplary surgeon with social commitment at the heart of his professional practice. He has handled many complicated general surgical cases with ease and saved several lives.

Since 2003, Ravi started taking a proactive role in the initiatives at IMA Dhule. He was instrumental in IMA Dhules proactive participation in providing physical and monetary aid to the victims of Gujarat and Nepal Earthquake, Kashmir Floods, and to the families of martyrs. It was his idea to start Ubhari Abhiyan’, a helping hand from IMA Dhule to the farmers affected by drought and hailstorm. The EVECON-State IMA Women conference was conceived and organized successfully under his leadership in the year 2010. Since then, many state- and national-level programmes such as WEZ AMSCON HOSPEX, Unmesh, Yomedicon (Young Medicos convention), WIMALS-Women IMA Leaders’ Summit, and SHABDANGAN- a Medicos Literary Festival have also been organized.

As a result of his relentless efforts towards making IMA stronger, Dr RAVI WANKHEDKAR was chosen unopposed as the Presidential Candidate for IMA for the year 2017/18.

Ravi runs the Sitaram Hospital at Dhule. He has been instrumental in upgrading the hospital with modern equipment and technology as required, the latest being “DYBSS”- a centre for laser anorectal surgery.

He is also the Founder Coordinator of Mission Pink Health, an ongoing community health project for Adolescent Tribal Girls. More than 25,000 girls have benefitted from this mission thus far.

Ravi also started the SHET SHIVAR DAVAKHANA’, a free clinic at his farm for poor farm workers and labourers.

He has conducted numerous medical camps in remote tribal areas of Satpuda. [AA1] He is associated with many social, medical, sports, and literary organizations.

Ravi also holds the following positions: Hon. Prof. of Surgery, SBH Govt Med Clg, Dhule; National Chairman-IMA Accreditation Council; National Chair-UNESCO Bioethics; ex Member-Maharashtra Medical Council, Govt of Maharashtra, Mumbai; Past National Chairman-IMA Academy Of Medical Specialties; Past National Secretary IMA Hospital Board of India; Member, Govt Anti Quackery committee; Member - Board of Exams, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nasik; President-Dhule District Basketball Association; and Past Director - D S Garud District Public Library.

Apart from his professional commitments, Ravi finds solace in nature. He has completed a basic Mountaineering Course at Manali and undertaken the Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra in 2011.
