Around 9 million Americans had received their first COVID-19 vaccination dose as of Monday, stated the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as US states jostle to scale up inoculations.
Overall, 8,987,322 people have received the first of two shots, which, according to the CDC, represent less than a third of the 25 million total doses distributed to states by the U.S. government. While Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer sought permission from the Trump administration to directly purchase 100,000 doses of the Pfizer- BioNTech vaccine, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio stated that the city could run out of vaccine doses if the federal government fails to send more.
