On Monday, The Unani doctors who belongto Hyderabad’s most prestigious NizamiaTibbi College, popularly known as Charminar Unani Dawakhana, urged the government to grant them consent to conduct surgeries.

A member of Unani Doctors association said that they are taught the same syllabus as in MBBS and are well trained to do surgeries. Also, they have one year’s internship in their Bachelor’s course. They are going to send a representation soon to the Union government.

As per the Unani practitioners, Unani medicine is about attaining a balance of the bodily fluids known as “the four humors” (i.e., blood, phlegm, yellow bile, and black bile) that are important to health.

Telangana has nearly 8,000 Unani practitioners who have urged the government to permit them to perform surgeries. They have asked the question that the government has allowed Ayurveda doctors to perform surgeries then why not them?

On 15th January, the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), which is the India’s principal regulatory body for Ayurveda education has recently released a notice permitting postgraduate Ayurveda practitioners to conduct and perform 58 types of surgeries.
