Indian Prime Minister will launch the worlds largest vaccination campaign on 16th January, Saturday, as the nation tries to bring the COVID-19 pandemic under control, starting with two locally developed vaccines.

Prime Minister will address healthcare workers through video conferencing but will not immediately take the vaccine himself as India is initially prioritizing nurses, doctors, and other frontline workers. On day 1, about 100 people will be voluntarily vaccinated in each of the countrys 3006 centers.

It is one of the worlds largest vaccination programs covering the countrys entire length and breadth. India has said that even if half of its population is covered, herd immunity can be covered. However, beneficiaries will not choose between the Oxford University/AstraZeneca vaccine and a government-supported vaccine from Bharat Biotech.
