The health ministry has not come forward with the criteria for the split of 11 million doses of Covishield and 5.5 million doses of Covaxin between states. With the nationwide vaccine campaign kickstarting today, a certain section of doctors is speculating whether the indigenous vaccine is being sent to public institutions that have lesser chances of questioning the decision.

Six government hospitals in Delhi are slated to receive Covaxin, while all the 42 private hospitals will receive the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine, Covishield produced in India by the Serum Institute of India. The public hospitals to receive Covaxin are the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Safdarjung Hospital, Ram Manohar Lohiya Hospital, Kalawati Saran Hospital, and two Employees State Insurance Hospitals.

The way the vaccines are going to be split has considerable importance since many doctors and researchers are not convinced with the decision to introduce Covaxin before waiting for efficacy results anticipated in another two months.
