Pfizer says it has second doses of COVID-19 vaccine ready, foresees no supply problems in U.S.

Pfizer Inc has been holding on to second doses for each of its COVID-19 vaccinations as requested by the federal government, and expects no problems in their supply to Americans, said a spokeswoman.

The spokeswoman added that Operation Warp Speed has asked them to begin shipping the second doses only recently, and they have on hand all the second doses of the previous shipments to the US.

Pfizer has shipped over 15 million doses to destinations across the US, and expects to be able to produce nearly 2 billion doses globally in 2021, stated the spokeswoman. The country has; however, been struggling to administer the doses that have already been distributed. As per data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, only around 12 million of more than 31 million doses that have been shipped have been administered till now… (Reuters, January 16, 2021)
